Making it stick….. In our multi-tasking, over scheduled world, it can be hard to find time to incorporate hard-earned life lessons. So at day 20 of 40 Days of Letting Go, I encourage you to take a moment to note your progress, to absorb it, as Dr. Rick Hanson says, to take it in.
Today’s Letting Go Exercise: Use Yoga Nidra to integrate your progress:
The science of mindfulness has shown us that its easier to learn, be creative, and communicate effectively, if we feel calm and safe. Yoga nidra, a style of yoga that incorporates deep relaxation, is an excellent way to help you let go of unhelpful habits of body and mind. Yoga nidra interventions have been rigorously studied and are used in settings to help military personnel, chronic pain patients, and trauma survivors. Listen to the Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra practice below, created by Jennifer Reis. But first read what Jennifer has to say about yoga nidra and letting go….
“Because there is nothing required of you but to lie down and listen when you practice Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra, it gives you permission to let go of busy-mind and restless movement of the body and drop into a place of deep rest, balance, and restoration. Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra is a switch that turns off ‘flight or fight’ and turns on the ‘relaxation response’ — the body’s natural healing state. This allows your body and mind the necessary time it needs to integrate, heal, slow the aging process and prevent illness.
Your body knows exactly what to do to attain and maintain perfect health and equilibrium, but it is necessary to let go of the thinking-mind state and go into the state of deep relaxation for healing to happen. And Divine Sleep brings you easily, compassionately, inexpensively and swiftly into your healing state. Welcome to Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra, the antidote to modern life!’
Grab a blanket and get yourself comfortable. Enjoy this free clip of yoga nidra led by Jennifer. Take time to jot down a few notes about your mental and physical state before and after your practice. Share your progress with us!
